I posted a review of this book of B&N.com a while ago, and more recently on goodreads. I am so fed up with this series, however, that posting it in just two places will not do.
**WARNING: REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR A COMPLETELY UNRELATED BOOK, LOOKING FOR ALASKA**
Never have I been more disappointed in a book. Never. It honestly makes me sad that I have to write this review about a series that I used to love so much.
The first three books were fantastic. They were also the original books. JP was supposed to stop after three. He wasn't supposed to write five more.
But he did.
And when he did, he changed the series completely and irrevocably. No longer was it a series about a kick-ass flock of genetically engineered teenagers who, despite living in horrendous, when-will-we-stop-eating-desert-rat type circumstances who, wouldn't you know it, still had witty teenage thoughts in their teenage heads (because, well, they were teenagers after all). No, now it was a thinly-veiled attempt at a "preach-to-the-masses" type book about, of all things, global warming.
And then, just when you thought it couldn't get worse... it did. Nevermore was released.
True to its predecessor, Angel, Nevermore steadily forgot everything Patterson had previously written in the earlier novels and instead stuffed in, very haphazardly, random shit. Remember that character who was oh-so-important to that book, two or three books ago? JP doesn't. Remember that plot point that was left unfinished, To Be Continued? Well, JP pulled an Alaska Young and left the Pudges everywhere forever without an answer as he abandoned the plot completely.
There's a reason JP writes several books a year while every other author takes at least a year a book - he takes absolutely NO TIME to come up with a good plot line, or characters who do things like, oh I don't know, STAY DEAD. In addition, it is blatantly clear that Patterson does not do anything so simple as refer to his notes*. If I didn't know better**, I'd say JP just took a bunch of random ideas he had rattling around in his head and strung them together by a quickly fraying thread. I am not exaggerating when I say it reads like a poorly-thought out fanfiction.
*Because, you know, that's what normal people do. JP, on the other hand, does things like think "Hmm... what color should that character's hair be today?"
**And I don't. For all I know (and in all actual likelihood), that's exactly what he did.
What's What on the Blog
If you love reading, you've (probably) come to the right place.
I post updates on books I'm reading, with detailed reviews, quotes from books I'm reading, book recommendations in the form of "If... then..." statements, tags, book hauls, and wrap-ups/TBRs. So basically I'm a booktuber, but in text format because my face is too dangerous for the internet.
On recommendations: I will occasionally post recommendations in the form of if... then... statements. (Ex: "If you liked The Catcher in the Rye, then you might like The Perks of Being a Wallflower). If you have a book that you like, and you want to find more like it, ask me! I'll try to find something. It doesn't even have to be a book you like. It can be a sport, a hobby, a movie, whatever. Just ask in the comments, and I will be happy to suggest something!
Disclaimer: I won't actually be telling you where to find the books, as I'm sure you're capable of that feat on your own. The title of the Blog is simply a reference to my favorite series of all time, Harry Potter (the reference being a parody of the title "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them").
