What's What on the Blog

If you love reading, you've (probably) come to the right place.

I post updates on books I'm reading, with detailed reviews, quotes from books I'm reading, book recommendations in the form of "If... then..." statements, tags, book hauls, and wrap-ups/TBRs. So basically I'm a booktuber, but in text format because my face is too dangerous for the internet.

On recommendations: I will occasionally post recommendations in the form of if... then... statements. (Ex: "If you liked The Catcher in the Rye, then you might like The Perks of Being a Wallflower). If you have a book that you like, and you want to find more like it, ask me! I'll try to find something. It doesn't even have to be a book you like. It can be a sport, a hobby, a movie, whatever. Just ask in the comments, and I will be happy to suggest something!

Disclaimer: I won't actually be telling you where to find the books, as I'm sure you're capable of that feat on your own. The title of the Blog is simply a reference to my favorite series of all time, Harry Potter (the reference being a parody of the title "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them").

Dewey's Read-a-thon Update #3! Mid-Event Survey (one hour later...)

Liz's Read-a-thon Stats:
Pages read so far: 362 (ish)
Time listened to so far: 2 hrs 30 mins (ish)
Books finished: 0
Books started: 2

Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now?
I'm going back and forth between A Game of Thrones and How Evan Broke His Head and Other Secrets, and The Way We Fall when I want to give my eyes a break.

2. How many books have you read so far?
One.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the read-a-thon?
A Game of Thrones.

4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?
No. I have no life.

5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with them?
Well, I've had to take the dogs out, and I've had to eat food, and I've had to take several breaks because I couldn't sit still (but then I was listening to the audiobook, so I don't think that really counts).

6. What surprised you most about the read-a-thon so far?
The sheer number of people participating.

7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve read-a-thon next year?
Just keep doing what you're doing. Personally, I could get a better night's sleep the night before.

8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?
Get a better night's sleep, choose easier reads.

9. Are you getting tired yet?
Exhausted.

10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?
Whenever you need to take a break to make food or something, switch to an audiobook. That way you free up your hands and eyes but you can still keep reading!

Yup.

Dewey's Read-a-thon Update #2!

Liz's Read-a-thon Stats:
Pages read so far: 299 (ish)
Time listened to so far: 2 hrs (ish)
Books finished: 1
Books started: 0

This is gonna be a quick one, because I need to get back to reading.

I just finished Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe and loved it! I'll be posting more about it shortly. I also listened to a little more of The Way We Fall and I'm not as into it as I was a few hours ago. The audiobook narrator's kind of annoying, and it's actually not very well written, despite it taking place on an island and including two ferrets and LGBTQA issues. I'm planning on starting A Game of Thrones soon, we'll see how that goes.

Yup.

Dewey's Read-a-thon Update #1!

Liz's Read-a-thon Stats:
Pages read so far: 189(ish)
Books finished: 0
Books started: 1

It's been exactly four hours and six minutes since I woke up this morning and started reading! I've actually been doing a lot more reading than I thought I would. Okay, so 189 pages isn't great for fours hours, but allow me to explain: I read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe in bed until about 8:30, then came downstairs to have breakfast and take care of the rapidly increasing multitude of animals in our house. Then, I read for a while, until about 9:30 when I decided to make some chicken noodle soup because it was raining out and when it's raining out, I just reflexively make something warm. I read off and on while doing so, then read while I was eating.

Then my grandmother called.

Yeah, that took up quite a big chunk of time. It's cool, though, I like talking to my grandmother. After that I decided to switch it up a bit and listen to an audiobook that I've had on my phone for quite some time - The Way We Fall by Megan Crewe. I honestly wasn't expecting to like it that much, but then I started listening to it and ASDFGHJKL;. Okay, 1) it takes place on an island. I love books that take place on islands. 2) The main character has TWO FERRETS. I have NEVER read a book where ANY character owns a SINGLE ferret. I LOVE FERRETS. I AM SO HAPPY. 3) It's written all in letters, which is a format that I love and can never find enough books in it.

So, right now I am listening to The Way We Fall and painting my nails. So far so good.
